Mamaw

My "Mamaw" will be 100 years old on September 2nd. The graduate is her PRIDE AND JOY. He is in the Marines and is stationed in 29 Palms, California in the middle of the hot desert. He will deploy in April. Hopefully, he will get to come home for her party in September, I know that will be the best birthday present ever. Family is something that God is sharing with me, and everyday I THANK him for the privilege.

Thing 8

Tagging is a very helpful tool, when you list a few descriptions, it makes it easier when a person is searching for a specific subject. When assigning tags, you need to make sure that your tag is a word that makes sense and will be easy to understand. I had never tagged before, I will use it now.
Delicious is very user friendly, it was very easy to navigate around, since I have a yahoo account, it did not have me put in all the personal information. The video was so helpful to me. When I see it being done, it is easier for me to remember, instead of reading the instructions. Bookmarking and tagging is a easier and faster way to find what you are looking for, I can see students using tagging and bookmarking without any problems.

THING 7

Thing 7 was actually one of the lessons that I felt a little more at ease with. I watch the video, looked at some other google docs and I thought, okay, I can do this. So I went to google doc, once, twice, three times and I could not find the document. I signed on, off, on, and finally, I had to call for HELP. It was not me, yahoo......the doc was not shared with me so I could not get on it, now it is and I am done.
I would use google doc to work on a project with other teachers, even family members if we are planning something. I think it is a great tool. Sometimes other people can say things in a different way and you go, that is what I wanted to say, just could not get the wording right.
I think that if students use it or when they use it, they will have to monitored, and that may be a little time consuming for the teachers, but if used correctly, I do think it would be good for them to share ideas.

Thing 6

I have to say that I had a little trouble with embedding the video from youtube. I did finally get it done. It is a great tool, and I will use it more. I listen to a few podcast and I did enjoy them, it is a great thing to be able to pick what you want to listen to. Radio has way to much stuff that I do not even care to hear. Podcasting is a great tool for people that have something to say about a certain subject and they can share it with people that have the same interest, and you can take it with you if you are running, driving, riding a bike, just about anywhere. I did enjoy THING 6.

I am a American Idol junkie, but I do not start watching it weekly until they weed out some of the crazy people. I love music, all types of music. When Lee sang this song on American Idol, it touched me. I knew he would win after this performance. Lee is very humble and when he sings, it is from the heart, just watch and you will see.

Thing 5

What I enjoyed about wiki is that I am able to learn even more on the web. I am definitely going to come out of this course a winner. I had no idea what all was out there. The difference between the blog and wiki, blogging is you posting your thoughts and someone reading them, the wiki is you posting something and another person, or people can add to your post. Students would benefit from the wiki in numerous ways, they can do math problems, they could do planning with many other students, and include the teacher also. I do like the wiki, I think students will be more open to use them because it is the way of the future, and our kids are our future. The only thing I do worry about is, there are still families that do not have computers in the homes, that will make it almost impossible for them to participate when others can, unless we allow them to use our labs at school.

Thing 4

I have had a great time with Thing 4. I have played around with it for more time than I want to admit. Downloading the pictures,I sort of knew about from doing some christmas gifts and I also have made some collages. Now the image-generator is another story, I have always joked about cut and paste, that to me is with scissors and glue, but I did learn how to copy and paste, thanks to Krystel. This would be great for kids to learn, kids of all ages in fact will benefit from this lesson. This would be fun to put words under pictures we can take in P.E.
One thing I have learned is when you change your layout, it does not always work with the way you have pictures, so again, a learning curve for me, but I LOVE IT!

This is my favorite

Thing 3

I have had a facebook account for a while, I had the Myspace before that. Facebook is very simple to use and that is why kids use it. It is really neat to me, to be able to keep up with old friends, that I have not seen in years, and will not see, they live very far away and do not plan on coming to Smithville. So I can keep up with their lives and their families, that otherwise I would not know anything about. When I turned 50, she sent me a facebook message, Welcome to the "Half a Century Club!" She thought that was really funny and so did most of my facebook friends.

I do not think it should be a place that you post your every thought, I have read some post that say "in a bad mood"........ " Bored, nothing to do" ..... okay, that is when it is time to go pick up a book, go for a walk, swim, or just go take a nap, facebook does not need to know your every thought.

I see many people post things that seem that they want to brag about themselves, again, just not for me. I have a good friend that just brought her son home for a 30 day leave from the Marines, they went out to California for his graduation, went to the beach, spent family time together. She posted pictures, and that is her way of showing all her facebook friends, without leaving anyone out, the special time she spent with her family on vacation. I loved it!!!!!!!

From experience, be very careful about the personal information you put out on facebook. There are WEIRDOS out there.

Thing 2

It is just unbelievable to me the difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0. Web 1.0 all the burden is put on the webmaster, to keep everything updated and everyone up to date. Web 2.0 is the new technology that people use to be able to have access and interact with everyone, information going in and out. The web give us so much more access, there are millions of ways to get information, and it is fast, not that books are not good, but the time it takes to find the book, find what you want and then the time to read it, you can just search for it on the web, and it gives you so many more choices. Allowing children to spend time on the computer, gives them the chance to explore so much, they can analyze, create, and be successful, that is what everyone wants, to be successful. People like the quick response, they can have more than one thing going at a time, I know that is what is helpful to me, I can multi-task, that is every mom's dream, get lots of things done and faster ...... I am Buzzing off!

Thing 1

The reason I am participating in 8 things is to be able to be up to date and knowing maybe just a portion of what my children have already learned in school, that I did not, (it's an age thing). I am very nervous about the 8 things, but I have got to just jump in. I really am excited about blogging, this is what our world has come to, unfortunately, talking on the phone, and writing letters is a thing of the past. One thing I have to be aware of, is that I have to be very careful about putting things out there that I do not want the world to know. One thing I will be able to use in our classroom (the gym) is that I will be open to NEW things, and blogging is a New thing for me.

First Week Of Summer

I guess the only way to do this, is to just jump in. I have always loved the feeling of running and jumping in a swimming pool, instead of easing in slowly, so here it goes. I named my blog Busy as a Bee, because, since we got out of school, I have not stopped. I am buzzing around here and there, trying to get things done. Monday took my daughter to camp in Marshall, 5 hour drive, and yep, drove back. Leaving for my son's State Rodeo Finals in Abilene, today. I know that may not sound like much, but OMG. what we have to do to just get ready to leave, and not only that, we have to get the horses ready for the trip, you cannot just go to a rodeo, you have to have all these crazy papers from the Vet to make sure that the horses (3) are okay to haul. Food for the horses and of course food for us for a week. I hate buying groceries for home much less a TRIP, so at midnight last night, yep, grocery shopping!!!!!!!!! Last but not least, of course, is making sure my "Pocket Pet" Precious (my sweet chihuahua) is taken care of while I am gone. I could take her, but it being so hot, she is better off being at home, in the AC. Well, I need to go and jump in and load the trailer, so until next time. Busy Bee is Buzzing!!
